Face mask with a map of the world printed on itCOVID-19 is forcing engineering programs to change our admissions processes. Here’s how to evolve strategically.

Everyone has a role to play in the response to COVID-19, and I’m incredibly grateful to you all for everything you do: from the healthcare staff and essential employees working on the front lines of our communities, to everyone sheltering in place at home to help flatten the curve and slow transmission of the virus. A generational crisis like this can be scary, but it also shines a light on the limitless generosity and creativity we’re capable of and — even with social distancing — brings us together in new and unexpected ways. Read more…

Flashpoint: Engineering Education Not Immune to International Enrollment Crisis

As an international application and enrollment crisis continues to sweep higher education in the United States, engineering programs seem to have weathered the storm. But that shouldn’t lull the field into a false sense of security. The number of foreign students applying to American academic institutions and eventually choosing to enroll in the U.S. has declined in recent years. The Council of Graduate Schools has reported that for the fall of 2018, applications from potential graduate students from overseas fell 4 percent, while the number of international graduate students who enrolled in American programs declined 1 percent. Read more…
